Cruising the Tennessee River

PictureBarkley Lake Canal from Green Turtle Marina to Kentucky Lake and the Tennessee River.

We left Green Turtle Bay Friday morning and have been cruising down the BEAUTIFUL Tennessee River the last couple of days with stops at Pebble Isle Marina in Johnsonville, TN and Clifton, TN.  Both days have been about 65 mile runs.  The scenery has been extraordinary and other than fisherman (a lot), a few small barges and Looper boats we’ve had the river to ourselves.

We departed Saturday morning at 7am from Pebble Isle in a light fog. We met a barge soon after we got in the channel. Kind of spooky looking passing it in the fog. I kept looking for Johnny Depp to appear with the Black Pearl.

Here's a shot of our electronics from the helm....great to have a navigation, chart plotter, radar and autopilot.....especially in the fog.

We arrived in Clifton, TN yesterday afternoon and did our "gotta get off the boat" walk.  We checked out downtown Clifton.  Not a good surface to walk if you have sea-legs!

A Grand Banks, Bella Blue slipped across from us last night. She's a great looking Loop Boat.
I told the captain last week that we WERE NOT going to travel on Sundays when the Vikings are playing.  Tom bleeds purple and looks forward to Funday Sundays and the Sundays that we have traveled the last few weeks have been a harried, no, a CRAZY race to the next port.   With that said,  we were woke up this morning (7 am) from a call from Sam, one of the other Viking fanatics in my family.  He had tickets to the game and was just calling his dad for a little pre-game.  So we got up and made a little game day breakfast on the boat.....

A little while later we received this from Sam and his buddy Alex Kurth on their way to the game.  GO VIKES!!!

Wow- what an amazing journey. I love reading about it.-Feels like I’m with you! Weather is warmer in ND today, I’m baking apple pies for my honey- we have 2 trees. My kitchen is under construction, no sink or counter tops, or stove top but it’s amazing what you can do with a hot plate & candle
Love & prayers, shelly

I didn't know that you were re-doing the kitchen. Send pics when it's done! Love your pies, in fact I was talking about them the other day! I'm sure your amazing with the hot plate and candle....be careful around it with your hair! That would be a BIG POOF!!!

Hey Joe! Yes you can get to Nashville by taking the Cumberland River. It was part of our initial plan to go to Nashville but since we got a late start we decided against it. Maybe next time!!! Hi to Mary!
